The focus of the study is the history of the Cherokee Strip Live Stock Association, and genealogy of the men who leased the land and the ranch hands that worked the range.

The Cherokee Outlet comprised six million acres across the top of what is now Oklahoma, covering all or part of eleven current counties: Harper, Ellis, Woods, Woodward, Major, Alfalf, Grant, Garfield, Kay, Noble and Pawnee.

Enid in Garfield County is home to the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center.
